“Following the monsoon season, next week will bring a ‘power peak’ due to the heat wave… Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy conducts emergency on-site inspections.”

Deputy Minister Choi Nam-ho of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy visits Sin Yang-jae Substation

According to the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, Deputy Minister Choi Nam-ho conducted an emergency inspection of power supply response measures and facility conditions with related organizations at Sin Yang-jae Substation, a key power facility in the Seoul metropolitan area. This was announced on the 1st.

The Ministry expects that there is a high possibility of peak power demand occurring next week on weekdays during this summer. They explained that after this week, when vacations are concentrated, and from the following week when work rates recover, power demand could noticeably increase.

Furthermore, the Ministry anticipates that with the cumulative heatwaves and humid weather since July continuing until next week, cooling demand will also reach its highest level. Last August 7th, a record high of 93.6GW was recorded for summer peak power demand.

Deputy Minister Choi stated, “We are prepared for the possibility of demand rising more than expected due to heatwaves and typhoons,” and urged related organizations to fully manage their facilities.
