‘Thinking she was backstabbed by her mentor Manager Im (played by Lee Jung-jae), Sooyoung (played by Jeon Do-yeon) moves around seeking the criminal organization that reaps benefits by turning everything upside down in return for all the sins. In the process, rather than relying on rough and intense action scenes, the film builds suspense using the tension accumulated character by character to amplify the excitement. Simply looking at the title of the movie, one might easily associate it with gunfights or brawls. Ultimately, it serves as a MacGuffin effect (a dramatic device or plot device used to deflect attention – reporter’s statement).’ ‘In terms of its tale of villains, it also features a distinctive picaresque nature. Korean cinema has had a fair share of works with such picaresque structures, especially in the film noir genre, and stood out for presenting a female narrative while showcasing the director’s delicate storytelling. Particularly, by interweaving memories and past scenes that explain the relationship with Manager Im and transitioning cuts using simple props, the director displayed his finesse. This clever choice effectively connects the past of each character without killing the pace of the story, engaging the audience through character-driven events rather than just dialogue.’, ‘Another noteworthy element is the synergy of the actors. Beyond simply embodying their characters well, the different personalities of each actor harmonize well with their roles. Im Ji-yeon, who played an antagonist after the drama , portrayed a cunning madam without an ounce of loyalty, strangely feeling a sense of comradeship with Sooyoung and unintentionally becoming her accomplice. This subtle dynamic, expressed primarily through events and character traits rather than dialogue, owes much to the actors’ interpretive skills.’, ‘Actress Jeon Do-yeon has been taking on more action-oriented roles recently. Especially compared to her recent work (2023), there is significant contrast in the character she portrays in this work. While in Bok-soon reflects the actress’s physical abilities and genre-specific traits, in , the character’s inherent depth and atmosphere were actively utilized. This is the reason why the same action appears entirely different.’, ‘Without major conflicts or chase scenes, those expecting a simple action movie may find it somewhat dull, like plain Pyongyang cold noodles. Yet, throughout the flow of the story, tension remains high. One thing is clear – “Revolver” is a successful comeback film for director Oh Seung-wook, overflowing with potential, regardless of its box office success.’, Regardless of its box office performance, is expected to be a memorable work among recent Korean film releases.,
