“[Seoul=Newsis] Reporter Lee Ye-seul = The public contemporary ballet company, Seoul Ballet Company, is looking for dancers to perform on stage for the 2024-2026 season.”
Sejong Cultural Center announced on the 30th that they will select dancers to participate in the works of major choreographers including Hans van Manen’s “Kammerballett” starting in September for over two years.
Unlike the guaranteed lifetime membership system of existing public ballet companies, Seoul Ballet Company is based on seasonal contracts for appearances. Contemporary ballet, which has distinct styles and personalities for each choreographer, requires dancers to cover a wide spectrum of works.
Given the relatively limited experience of contemporary ballet in the classical ballet-centric domestic environment, Seoul Ballet Company plans to accumulate dancers’ experiences and capabilities through a variety of works by major choreographers both domestically and internationally.
The audition process involves an initial audition to assess fundamental skills, followed by a second audition judged by the choreographers in 2025. The second audition may include live performances and video auditions depending on the circumstances of the choreographers. The selection is expected to be around 20 dancers.
Ballet dancers aged 18 and above can apply. Applications are open until August 12th.
