Professor Seo Kyung-deok of Sungshin Women’s University criticized that “recently, right-wing forces in Japan have been using social networking services (SNS) to forcibly claim Dokdo using BTS.”

Professor Seo stated on his Facebook today (22nd), “I found out about this through many BTS fans’ tips, and upon investigating, found that right-wing forces in Japan were causing controversy by garnering about 20 million views.”

On the X (former Twitter) account operated by Japan’s ‘Share News Japan’, there was a photo capture of BTS leader RM wearing hanbok and singing the song ‘Dokdo is our land’. Share News Japan is introduced as a web media that delivers news and online reactions that are a hot topic in Japan.

The problematic account added to the photo, “BTS leader, wearing comfort women clothing, sings that Takeshima (Dokdo as claimed by Japan) is Korean land” and mockingly mentioned the Japanese military comfort women.

Professor Seo pointed out, “As the influence of K-pop increases worldwide, the grasping of right-wing forces in Japan is increasing day by day.”

He added, “We should consistently criticize their incorrect historical perceptions and actions domestically and internationally to prevent such incidents from happening again.”
