Hurricane Hanna hits Texas, US… 3 dead, 270,000 households without power

Hurricane Berel, accompanied by powerful winds, struck the state of Texas in the United States, resulting in three deaths and power outages for 2.7 million households. Berel made landfall as a Category 1 hurricane near Matagorda, about 160 kilometers southwest of Houston yesterday morning local time. A Category 1 hurricane is the lowest category among the five, and Berel weakened to a tropical storm after making landfall. However, the strong winds reaching up to 150 km/h and heavy rainfall caused significant damage across the region.

In the Humble area of Texas, a large tree fell on a house due to the strong winds, resulting in the deaths of a man in his 50s and a woman in her 70s. In Houston, a person crossing an underground passage drowned. Additionally, a local power company reported that approximately 2.7 million households had their electricity supply disrupted, mainly in the Houston area. Over a thousand flights were canceled at the two airports in Houston.

Hurricane Berel, which developed into a Category 5 hurricane in the Atlantic Ocean, caused at least 11 deaths as it passed through the Caribbean before reaching Texas.
