On 2027, LG Twins and Doosan Bears will watch the baseball games at Jamsil Main Stadium for 5 years.
Seoul City confirmed on the 9th that they will use Jamsil Main Stadium as an alternative baseball stadium during the approximately 5 years of Jamsil Dome Stadium construction.
The two professional baseball teams will play at Jamsil Baseball Stadium until the 2026 season and then play for a total of 5 seasons in the alternative baseball stadium from 2027 to 2031.
Seoul City included plans to build a dome stadium in the area of the existing Jamsil Baseball Stadium in the Jamsil Sports·Mice (MICE) complex development project announced last year in September.
Starting from October last year to this month, the Seoul Metropolitan Government, Korea Baseball Organization (KBO), LG, and Doosan have held a total of 5 TF (Task Force) meetings, on-site inspections, and practical discussions to focus on using Jamsil Main Stadium as the alternative baseball stadium.
In particular, they reportedly reviewed the safety and capacity of spectators’ movements due to construction, facility size, and surrounding development projects.
The city will replace the soccer fields and athletic tracks with professional baseball fields according to KBO standards. Some indoor spaces will be remodeled into baseball dugouts and player support areas.
Considering the viewing conditions such as the distance to the ground, the seating will be created mainly on the 1st and 2nd floors, totaling around 18,000 seats.
If spectator safety is confirmed through monitoring, seating up to the 3rd floor with over 30,000 seats will be possible for major games and postseason games.
Both teams and KBO are planning to establish systematic spectator safety management measures and operating systems to prevent accidents.
To achieve this, the city will secure an additional entrance and exit route in the west direction towards Bongeun Bridge and adjust the construction area near the north side of Jamsil Sports Complex to secure an additional entrance and exit route in the east direction towards Baekjegobun Road.
KBO Chairman Heo Goo-yeon stated, “KBO will do its best to create a safe and pleasant viewing environment for baseball fans by cooperating with teams, Seoul City, and all related organizations.”
Mayor Oh Se-hoon said, “Although Jamsil Main Stadium will be used as an alternative baseball stadium during the construction of the dome stadium, we will prioritize citizen safety and focus on creating a viewing environment that is not temporary but satisfactory,” and “We will make efforts to ensure the prompt and safe progress of the construction of Jamsil Dome Stadium as part of the ‘Jamsil Sports·Mice complex development project’ to meet the expectations of baseball fans.”
