In Suwon, Gyeonggi-do, a driver in his 70s crossed the center line and drove against traffic, causing a collision with 5 vehicles. Three people were injured in the accident.
According to the police, around 8:23 a.m. on the 9th, in the 3-lane road near Hwaseo Junction in Paldal-gu, Suwon, a Volvo sedan driven by Mr. A suddenly crossed the center line while driving on the first lane and started driving in the opposite lane. The wrong-way vehicle hit the side of a sedan parked on the first lane of the opposite side and then collided with an oncoming compact car. Mr. A’s vehicle continued to drive without stopping, colliding with 3 more sedans before coming to a halt.
As a result of this accident, Mr. A and two passengers in the compact car were injured and transported to the hospital.
During the police investigation, Mr. A claimed that his vehicle suddenly accelerated. The police plan to investigate the detailed circumstances of the accident after Mr. A’s treatment is completed. They are also reviewing the incident through the vehicle’s black box and surrounding closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage.
