Under a clear sky with not a cloud in sight, the hot sunlight pours down.
Even with a wide-brimmed hat and a sun hat, it’s not enough to block the strong sunlight.
Heat wave advisories have been issued in inland areas for consecutive days, and the heat is prevailing.
In Yeoryeong, Gyeongsangnam-do, the daytime temperature nearly reached 37 degrees, while Gimcheon and Gumi in Gyeongsangbuk-do exceeded 36 degrees.
Gwangju and Jeongseon in Gangwon-do soared to 36.2 degrees, setting a new record for mid-June temperatures. In Gwangju, it was the hottest summer in 85 years.
The hot and humid southern winds added to the heat in the air already heated under the scorching sun.
The heat wave is expected to subside temporarily over the weekend with rain.
There is a forecast of rain in the Seoul metropolitan area, Gangwon-do, and Jeju Island, while passing showers are expected in the southern part of Chungcheong Province and the inland areas.
[Gong Sangmin / Meteorological Agency Forecaster] “From the night of the 14th to the morning of the 15th, there will be precipitation centered around Jeju Island. From the morning of the 15th to the early morning of the 16th, there will be precipitation in the central region due to the influence of the North Ridge. From noon to evening on the 15th, passing showers are expected in Chungcheong Province and the southern inland areas.”
However, after the passing of rain clouds, the heat is expected to return.
Throughout next week, daytime temperatures are expected to be around 30 degrees or higher, above the normal range for this time of year.
The Meteorological Agency has advised to drink plenty of water and refrain from intense outdoor activities, as heat-related illnesses are more likely to occur.
