Lee Jae-myung accepts differentiated support for livelihood recovery funds… “Let’s meet and come to an agreement,” says Yoon.

“Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, stated on the 29th that if universal support for the livelihood recovery fund is difficult, he is willing to accept differentiated support. This move is analyzed as preempting livelihood-related issues following the pension reform proposal.

During the supreme council meeting held at the National Assembly on that day, Lee Jae-myung said, ‘I will no longer argue that the livelihood recovery fund should be paid exactly the same (₩250,000 each).’

He emphasized that ‘the livelihood recovery fund not only provides income support for ordinary people but also stimulates consumption in alleyways and regions to activate the economy, so it must be supported.’ He further stated, ‘Since the values that the Democratic Party pursues lie in universal support, and excluding those who paid a lot of taxes from government policy benefits is unfair, we demanded universal equal support as much as possible, but if this is difficult, I am willing to accept differentiated support.’

Lee proposed a specific methodology of ‘matching support for high-income groups.’ He explained, ‘For those with a certain income below, the government will support 100%, but for those with income above a certain threshold, the government will support 80%, and individuals will bear 20%, or individuals will bear 30% and the government will support 70%, allowing for differentiation. He further clarified, ‘Instead of full support, some could bear their own share.’

He urged, ‘We are willing to compromise, so I hope the ruling party and the president will accept this policy that revives Gyeonggi Province while considering livelihoods and the lives of the people. Let’s promptly meet and discuss the specific details.'”
