‘Hongseong Homeland’ to become the first national cemetery in Gangwon Province, opening in 2028.

“The project to establish the first national cemetery in Gangwon Province, Hwaseong National Cemetery, is actively being promoted.

The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs announced that tomorrow (24th), Minister Kang Jung-ae, Governor Kim Jin-tae of Gangwon Province, and Mayor Kim Myung-gi of Hwaseong County will sign a cooperation agreement for the promotion of Hwaseong National Cemetery at Hwaseong County Office in Gangwon.

According to the agreement, Gangwon Province will provide infrastructure construction and regulatory exemptions, while Hwaseong County will expedite the licensing process.

Hwaseong National Cemetery is a project to invest 49.7 billion won to establish a memorial facility with a capacity of 20,000 on a 39,000 square meter land in Deokcheon-ri, Gonggeun-myeon, Hwaseong County, Gangwon Province, making it the first national cemetery in Gangwon Province.

The Ministry aims to start construction in June 2026 after design, permit work, and land compensation, and open the cemetery in November 2028.
