“Planned to be completed apartment, emergency stairs cut by 16cm to match the floor height”

An argument has been raised that maintenance work has been carried out in an apartment in Daegu, ahead of its completion, where the height between emergency stairs in between floors has been adjusted to meet the standards by shaving off around 16cm of each staircase upon completion.

A future resident of an apartment in Dalseo-gu, Mr. A, claimed that the construction company “shaved off the stairs at night” and conducted the work “secretly from prospective residents to conceal the deficiencies.”

According to the ‘Building Act,’ the height between floors of a staircase should be at least 2.1m, but the height of the stairs in the apartment was only 1.94m. Therefore, the claim is that each staircase was shaved off by 16cm.

Prospective residents expressed concerns, stating, “As it seems unlikely to receive an occupancy permit due to violating the Building Act, it appears that they conducted excessive work to secure the stair height,” and worried, “If people gather on the shaved stairs, it could lead to a collapse accident and develop into a major disaster.”

They urged for a thorough investigation by the authorities, pointing out that reports of defects such as wall deflection, cracks in the parking lot, and leaks are continuing.
