The former Governor of Gyeongnam Province, Kim Kyung-soo, who was staying in the UK, temporarily returned to Korea to attend the 15th memorial service for former President Roh Moo-hyun. Upon arrival at Incheon International Airport, Kim met with reporters and said, “It is the duty of a politician to speak about the future and hope to the people, but I am sorry for causing concerns and worries. I need to work harder now to see, listen, learn, and make efforts.”
When asked if he would meet with former President Moon Jae-in, Kim responded, “Shouldn’t I visit him?” Regarding a meeting with Lee Jae-myung, the leader of the Democratic Party, Kim said, “There is no decision yet. I will calmly arrange and meet with various people.”
On being asked about the expectations from some parts of the Democratic Party for his role as a central figure in the pro-Moon faction, Kim declined to make detailed comments on current politics from the perspective of a temporary visitor.
Kim Kyung-soo was sentenced to 2 years in prison for the ‘Druking comment manipulation case’ and was released on special pardon six months before completing his term. However, he is still disqualified from running in elections until May 2028.
