Purple night sky exclaims… “Observed in South Korea after 21 years”

The strongest solar storm in 21 years has occurred, causing auroras to be observed around the world, including in South Korea.

A dim energy spreading across the northern sky can be seen.

This aurora was captured in Hwacheon, Gangwon Province, South Korea at 2 AM on the 12th of this month.

The last time auroras were observed in South Korea was in October 2003 at Bohyeon Mountain Observatory, where a red aurora was seen. It has been 21 years since then.

Auroras are observed when solar activity intensifies and geomagnetic storms expand from the polar regions towards the equator.

Although it is relatively difficult to observe auroras in South Korea due to its lower latitude, the recent powerful geomagnetic storm has made it possible to witness auroras even in regions where it is usually hard to observe them.
