Rain will continue nationwide on the substitute holiday today.
It’s cool even during the day when it rains.
Let’s find out the detailed weather with the weather team’s caster Yoo Dahyun.
Hello,
Yesterday, the southern coast and Jeju Island were literally hit with a water bomb. How much rain fell?
[Caster]
Yes, you must have been disappointed with the bad weather on Children’s Day yesterday.
Summer-like heavy rain fell mainly on the southern coast and Jeju Island.
Let’s take a look at the accumulated rainfall.
Jeju’s mountainous areas received a whopping 980 millimeters of rainfall from the day before yesterday till now.
Gyeongsangnam-do’s Namhae recorded 262.6 millimeters, and Jeollanam-do’s Gwangyangdo got 207.6 millimeters, indicating concentrated heavy rain on the southern coast, as if it were midsummer.
Seoul also had 56.7 millimeters of rain.
Yesterday, strong and heavy rain fell mainly in the southern region, with some areas on the southern coast recording the highest May precipitation in history.
Wando, Jeollanam-do, set a record for May rainfall for the first time in 11 years since 2013, and Namhae set a record for May rainfall for the first time in 39 years.
Rain will continue today.
Most regions will not receive much rain, around 5 to 20 millimeters, and there won’t be concentrated heavy rain like yesterday.
It’s expected to be off and on rather than raining all day.

I heard that the winds are strong along the coast too?
[Caster]
Yes, we need to be cautious of strong winds in the mountainous areas of Gangwon and on the southern coast.
This morning, there were gusts exceeding 20 meters per second at Seoraksan and Tongyeong, making it difficult for people to stand.
Strong gusts that could blow signs off were also observed in Busan and Geoje.
A strong wind advisory has been issued for the Yeongnam East Coast.
Strong winds of over 20 meters per second will continue until this afternoon.
Please be careful to prevent any accidents.
Also, the East and South coasts, as well as the coast of Jeju Island, may have surging waves exceeding breakwaters, so please refrain from approaching the coast to prevent casualties.
If you’re curious about the air quality, you can look forward to clear and clean skies across the nation without worrying about fine dust.

The rain will persist until Tuesday when we return to normal days.

Seoul’s daytime temperature will stay at 16 degrees until tomorrow amid rainy days.
However, from Parents’ Day on Wednesday, temperatures will return to the normal range for this time and the skies will clear up.
