The Personal Information Protection Commission announced on the 5th that it has begun an investigation into the Ministry of the Interior and Safety regarding the leakage of personal information in ‘Gov24’ early last month. According to the Personal Information Protection Commission, an error occurred in early April on Gov24, an online government complaints service, where when obtaining a tax clearance certificate, another person’s document was issued. It is known that sensitive personal information such as the individual’s name and resident registration number were included in the document. Recently, the Personal Information Protection Commission has started on-site investigations and decided to request relevant data from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to determine the scale and circumstances of the personal information leak. According to the Personal Information Protection Act, all personal information handlers must report the fact of a personal information leak to the Personal Information Protection Commission within 72 hours of becoming aware of it.
