Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi will be embarking on a European tour to attend the G7 summit in France from June 15 to 17.
During a Liberal Democratic Party executive meeting yesterday (8th), Prime Minister Takaichi announced her plans to visit Europe, expressing her desire to strengthen cooperation with various countries from the perspective of Japan’s national interests.
This will be Prime Minister Takaichi’s first attendance at the G7 summit since taking office.
The G7 summit is expected to address issues such as strengthening the supply chain for critical minerals in response to China’s export restrictions, ensuring stable energy supply amid Middle East turmoil, and support measures for Ukraine.
In addition to France, Prime Minister Takaichi plans to visit the UK and Italy.
On the 14th, she will visit the UK to meet with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and on the 15th, she will hold a bilateral meeting with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni before attending the G7 meeting.
In the summits with the UK and Italy, discussions are expected to focus on collaboration in advanced technology fields such as the joint development of next-generation fighter jets, cybersecurity, and space.
