Jin-pyo Kim: “Felt the ‘power of recording’ while looking at my grandfather’s diaries… Efforts to spread the culture of ‘writing’”

Pilot CEO Establishes Public Interest Foundation

“PILOT Korea’s CEO, Jin-pyo Kim, who comes from the group Panic, announced his ambition to promote a ‘writing’ culture by establishing a foundation that upholds the value of writing. On the 13th, Kim assumed the role of chairman of the newly established cultural foundation, the Gohongmyeong and Hammuseok Foundation. The inauguration ceremony was held at Donhwamun Gugakdang in Seoul, marking the official start of its activities.

This nonprofit cultural foundation was founded to honor the late Chairman Gohongmyeong and President Hammuseok, who dedicated their lives to the Korean stationery industry since founding ‘Korea PILOT Fountain Pen’ in 1954. According to the foundation, ‘These two individuals laid the foundation for the Korean writing industry and culture, aiming to spread the joy of writing and the value of recording throughout society. The foundation carries on this spirit by advocating ‘a foundation supporting writing’ as its core value.’

Jin-pyo Kim reportedly established the direction of the foundation, drawing inspiration from the records left by the founder. Kim discovered the ‘power of recording’ while organizing his grandfather Gohongmyeong’s old diaries. He realized, ‘In the final diary he wrote at the age of 90, despite the unsteady handwriting due to weakened energy, the uneven letters conveyed a profound trace of life and natural emotional impact.’

The foundation’s first project is the ‘Goham Bad Handwriting Contest.’ A total of 7,307 entries were submitted since March, and 26 winning pieces will be displayed at Studio Goham in Jongno-gu, Seoul, for two months. The exhibition will open to the general public for free from the 14th. Jin-pyo Kim stated that as ‘a foundation supporting writing,’ they will continue activities to support creators and promote ‘writing’ culture.”
