BTS’s RM Faces Controversy Over ‘Street Smoking’ After Concert in Japan… “Security Guard Intervened After Littering”

[Sports Chosun, Reporter Cho Min-jeong] There are allegations that BTS member RM (real name Kim Nam-joon) smoked in a non-smoking area in Japan.

According to the Japanese media Shukan Bunshun on the 22nd, RM was reportedly seen smoking on the streets after having drinks with acquaintances around the Shibuya area in Tokyo.

The report states that RM smoked several times on the streets while moving between pubs and bars, and some of these instances were captured in photos.

In Japan, smoking is prohibited outside designated smoking areas, and separate smoking spaces are available. However, the media reported that RM smoked not only on the streets but also in indoor corridors of buildings where no smoking signs are posted.

It was also conveyed that a security guard reportedly gave a direct warning after witnessing this. Some reports also claim that cigarette butts were discarded on the ground.

This information has led to mixed reactions among local fans. Some have criticized his lack of consideration for public manners, while others suggest this may be a cultural misunderstanding or a private action.

As of now, neither RM nor his agency, HYBE, has issued a separate statement regarding this matter. BTS held their world tour concert at Tokyo Dome on the 17th and 18th.
