[Sports Chosun Reporter Cho Min-jung] The fine dining restaurant ‘MOSU Seoul,’ operated by Chef Ahn Sung-jae, who gained fame through the Netflix series ‘Black and White Chef,’ is embroiled in a wine service controversy.
On the 21st, controversy began when a post titled “Wine Vintage Swapped at MOSU” appeared on an online community. The author, identified as A, claimed that the vintage year of the wine served during their meal differed from what was ordered.
According to A, the sommelier described a wine with a vintage of ‘2005,’ but the actual pairing list stated ‘2000.’ A explained that they noticed the difference in vintage while verifying the taste and aroma of the wine, which seemed different from their expectations during the meal.
The issue is accentuated by the fact that the price difference between the two vintages is approximately 100,000 won. A claimed that when they requested confirmation, the sommelier belatedly said there was a separate bottle of the 2000 vintage. When A requested to take photos, it further raised suspicions that the restaurant might have been aware of the mistake from the beginning.
A also expressed dissatisfaction, saying, “It’s questionable that such a mistake happened at a Michelin two-star restaurant, but the response of ‘let us allow you to taste it’ without an apology was more disappointing.”
As the post spreads, online debates are continuing. Opinions range from criticisms emphasizing the importance of service trust in high-end fine dining to voices saying we should wait for an official statement since it’s a one-sided claim.
Meanwhile, ‘MOSU Seoul’ has yet to release an official stance on the controversy.
