Prime Minister Kim Min-seok, regarding the support fund for high oil prices, stated, “Due to local elections, some local government heads are running for election, so there are quite a few places where implementing it might be delayed until after July,” and urged, “Please ensure the Ministry of the Interior and Safety quickly organizes it.”
At the 7th Emergency Economic Headquarters meeting held at the Government Complex in Seoul on the morning of the 20th, Prime Minister Kim said, “Since this support fund is prepared and provided together with local governments, if the local governments do not quickly organize the related supplementary budget, this could be delayed.”
The high oil price support fund will be provided to basic, near-basic, and single-parent households starting on the 27th, and to the next 70% of income earners from the 18th of next month.
Prime Minister Kim stated, “I’ve heard that the number of coastal ferry operations has been reduced due to high oil prices, causing inconvenience to island residents,” and requested, “Please quickly prepare related supplementary budget execution plans and management stability support measures for ferry companies to ensure stable operation and navigation of coastal ferries from the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries and related departments.”
He also mentioned, “The government continuously inspects the supply stability situation of essential items such as syringes,” and added, “Please carefully check if things are functioning properly on the ground, if there are any blockages in production and distribution processes, and also address any difficulties in online settings.”
Prime Minister Kim emphasized, “Please have the relevant departments, such as the Ministry of Industry and Finance, proactively disclose the supply situation of major essential items to minimize public anxiety.”
