Samsung Electronics’ MX Division Audio Group Master Han-Gil Moon stated, “We have researched the ears of numerous races worldwide. By utilizing the shapes of 5,600 ears and over 100 million data points, we enhanced performance through more than 10,000 fitting simulations.” On the 26th (local time), during the Galaxy S26 Unpacked event in San Francisco, Moon introduced Samsung’s sound innovation technology embedded in the Galaxy Buds4 Pro to Korean reporters. He emphasized that the adaptive Active Noise Cancelling (ANC) feature was finely tuned to deliver optimal performance anytime and anywhere.
To achieve this, since 2024, Samsung Electronics has collaborated with the University of Michigan in the United States to study over 100 million ear shape data globally. Moon stated, “If the product’s fit is not perfect, it might cause discomfort such as sound leakage or the entry of external noise highlighting high-frequency sounds. The Buds4 Pro is designed to offer the most natural and comfortable sound experience by focusing on ‘consistent stability’ rather than maximum performance in any situation.”
An algorithm was developed to analyze incoming noise in real-time and generate the optimal ANC filter. Additionally, a ‘Siren Detection’ feature was implemented to automatically switch to ambient mode, based on deep learning technology, allowing users to maintain their sound experience while hearing surrounding sounds (such as conversations, notifications, and environmental noises) when loud noises above 85dB occur.
Call quality has also been improved. Moon explained, “Our top priority was to create a natural digital sound quality, as if the person you’re talking to is right next to you,” and “We clearly refined consonants, the ends of words, and voice boundaries, and enhanced the preservation of high-frequency voices.”
Actual noise data was collected from noisy environments like cafes, roads, train stations, and shops to apply in improving call quality. Moon mentioned, “If the wearing state changes during calls, external noise may enter. The Buds4 Pro are designed to detect this in real-time and promptly adjust the noise cancellation algorithm to maintain the best call quality at all times.”
Meanwhile, the Galaxy Buds4 Pro increased the effective area of the diaphragm by approximately 20% compared to its predecessor. Through a design that minimizes the bezel around the edge of the speaker, even when the size of the earbud speaker is physically restricted, sound quality was enhanced.
Moon noted, “The development of the Galaxy Buds4 Pro began with the fundamental question of ‘Who, when, where, and how will they use this product?’ It aims to elevate sound quality and ANC performance while becoming the most comfortable and reliable audio partner in users’ daily lives.”
