According to the Gangwon Meteorological Administration, there has been snowfall in mountain areas and along the east coast of Gangwon since the morning of the 2nd, with up to 40cm of snow expected in the mountains by the 3rd, necessitating caution for traffic safety.
From 7 am the previous day to 9 am today, the snow accumulation recorded was 16cm at Hyangnobong, 12.5cm at Guryongryeong, 10cm at Misiryeong Tunnel (Goseong), 5.9cm at Daegwallyeong, 4.7cm at Samcheok Dogae, and 3.6cm at Gangneung Wangsan.
Currently, the central and northern mountain areas of Gangwon are under heavy snow warnings, and Taebaek and southern mountain areas are under heavy snow advisories. Six cities and counties on the east coast, the plains of Pyeongchang, Jeongseon, Cheorwon, Hwacheon, Hongcheon, Chuncheon, Yanggu, and Inje have been issued preliminary heavy snow advisories.
Expected snowfall by the 3rd is 10–30cm in the mountains (more than 40cm in some places), 3–10cm in inland and northern east coast areas (more than 15cm in some places), 3–8cm in the central east coast, and 1–5cm in the southern east coast. Expected precipitation is 10–50mm for the east coast and mountains, and 5–15mm for inland areas.
A Meteorological Administration official warns that in areas with snow, visibility will rapidly decrease, and there will be icy roads and slippery conditions, urging caution for traffic safety. There should also be vigilance against damage to structures like livestock sheds, greenhouses, and vulnerable buildings due to heavy snow.
