Heavy rain and snow expected nationwide tomorrow… Up to 40 cm of heavy snow in the mountainous areas of Gangwon

Precipitation to Continue in Gangwon Yeongdong Until the Afternoon of the 3rd…Concerns Over Wet Snow Damage
Another Round of rain and snow expected on the 6th…Most areas will be able to observe the lunar eclipse on Jeongwol Daeboreum
, ‘[Edaily Reporter Choi Jung-hoon] On the 2nd, rain or snow will fall nationwide, with Gangwon Yeongdong expected to see up to 40cm or more of snowfall.’,

Lee Chang-jae, a meteorological analyst at the Korea Meteorological Administration, stated in a briefing on the 1st, “Precipitation is expected nationwide on Monday, with particularly heavy snowfall expected in Gangwon.”

The precipitation will cease in most areas as the low-pressure system moves away on the night of the 2nd, but rain and snow are expected to continue in Gangwon Yeongdong until the afternoon of the 3rd.

The expected snowfall is more than 40cm in the mountainous areas of Gangwon, 3 to 15cm in the inland and coastal areas of Gangwon, and the northeastern mountainous areas of Gyeongbuk, and 1 to 5cm in the Seoul metropolitan area and southern inland regions. The snow is expected to be wet and heavy, posing a risk for structural collapses and traffic safety incidents, so extra caution is advised.

On the 6th, another influence of a pressure trough will bring rain or snow nationwide again, and precipitation is expected to continue in Gangwon Yeongdong until the 7th. After that, high-pressure conditions are expected to bring generally clear weather.

Temperatures are expected to be slightly above average in the early part of the week and return to average levels after the precipitation on the 6th.

From the 2nd to the 3rd, very strong winds are expected in Jeju and some southern coastal areas, which could disrupt flight operations. From the 2nd to the 4th, swells are expected in the southern and eastern seas, so caution is needed for maritime operations.

Meanwhile, on the 3rd, the total lunar eclipse on Jeongwol Daeboreum is expected to be observable in most areas except the eastern regions with heavy cloud cover.
