An idol from ‘Produce 101 Season 2’ was assaulted while trying to stop a drunk driver… “Heavily bleeding, hospitalized for a week”

[Sports Chosun Reporter Lee Woo-joo] Sung Hyun-woo, formerly of the group Limitless, confessed that he was assaulted while trying to stop a drunk driving incident.

Recently, a video titled “Story of getting assaulted while stopping drunk driving” was posted on Sung Hyun-woo’s YouTube channel.

Sung Hyun-woo recalled, “I was 20 at the time. I had left the company where I was training and entered university. I had a friend who was like a brother to me. We met up and drank because both of us had a lot of worries at the time. I had to start my training life again and was searching for a company. It was one of those days where we kept drinking until the morning sun rose.”

Sung Hyun-woo continued, “When I was about to go home, my friend said he had brought his car and would drive home, insisting that I leave first because he would call a chauffeur. Because he was so drunk, I was worried and wanted to make sure he was okay, so I accompanied him to his car. It seemed like he might drive, so I insisted that he call a chauffeur first. After some back and forth, he eventually called a chauffeur and we waited.”

Sung Hyun-woo explained that while waiting, they chatted and laughed, but then his friend suddenly hit him in the face. “It was so unexpected that when I lowered my head in daze, blood started dripping. It hurt a lot and I felt betrayed. I was trying to prevent a major accident, but I got punched instead? The betrayal made me boil with anger,” he revealed, adding that he reported the assault to the police.

When the police arrived and saw the amount of blood, they told him to go to the hospital immediately. “But I wasn’t focused on the pain; I was angry. So, I insisted on going to the police station to write a statement first. At the police station, I initially said I didn’t want to settle. However, realizing I needed medical attention, I went to the hospital and the doctor said I needed to be hospitalized for over a week,” he said.

It was only then that he received a sincere apology message from his friend. Sung Hyun-woo recounted, “When I met him, he said he felt like he committed a grave sin. If it were me now, I would never have forgiven him, but back then I was quite innocent. I forgave because I liked him as a brother. He promised to take care of my family better than his own and visit my parents often,” adding, “He apologized in front of my family. We kept in touch for a while, but soon after, he stopped contacting me, even my parents. So, naturally, we grew apart.”

Meanwhile, Sung Hyun-woo gained recognition after appearing on Mnet’s “Produce 101” Season 2 in 2017. He later debuted in 2019 as a member of the boy group Limitless under the stage name A.M.
