“[Seoul=Newsis] Representative Park Seong-jun, who leads the so-called ‘Prosecutorial Cancellation Group’ within the Democratic Party of Korea, stated that ‘calling it a factional group is a political frame.'”
In a YTN radio interview on February 26, Representative Park, the chair of the Prosecutorial Cancellation Group, emphasized, “This is a voluntary gathering. As it’s a voluntary group, it cannot be disbanded on a whim.”
Representative Park further explained, “If someone decides to leave, so be it. This isn’t a secret society,” stressing that the group is a “practical working group.”
Regarding the reason for maintaining the Prosecutorial Cancellation Group despite the establishment of an official special committee within the party, Park mentioned, “There have been many response committees in our party, and although they were active, there was often a lack of subsequent action plans.”
He elaborated, “Through the group, we have outlined how to prepare for a parliamentary investigation, setting up schedules with other lawmakers, detailing the contents, and providing clear guidelines.”
However, Park noted, “(Actual actions like parliamentary investigations) cannot be carried out by the parliamentary group itself. The body that can push this forward is the leadership,” adding, “Our original intention was to act as a facilitating force.”
Park also mentioned, “Our primary goal is a parliamentary investigation, with the ultimate goal being prosecutorial cancellation. The first objective, the parliamentary investigation, has yet to be conducted,” and added, “There are also opinions on waiting to see if the parliamentary investigation leads to successful results and supporting this with our group as a facilitating and backing entity.”
He announced, “We will hold a meeting of the operations committee today at noon to gather opinions and decide on a direction.”
He responded to perceptions that the group is becoming a pro-Lee Jae-myung force by stating, “Everyone in our party is pro-Lee. There is no anti-Lee faction. All lawmakers and party members are united for the success of the Lee Jae-myung administration.”
Meanwhile, Park dismissed concerns about the segmentation of the party’s support base, such as the so-called ‘New Lee Jae-myung’ supporters, as “viewing it through an outdated frame,” asserting, “The new support signifies the success and achievements of the Lee Jae-myung administration.”
Regarding the forced expulsion of Jeong Cheong-rae from the Lee Jae-myung fan cafe ‘Jaemyeong Village,’ he remarked, “It seems a bit excessive,” but noted, “Although there may be some differences, Jeong is fully committed to the success of the Lee Jae-myung administration.”
