‘[Herald Economy=Lee Young-gi] The police reinvestigating the attack on President Lee Jae-myung in Gadeokdo have expanded their dedicated task force (TF) personnel. Previously, the government officially designated the attack as a ‘terrorist’ incident. Accordingly, the police are reinvestigating the background of the terrorism, possible collusion forces, and suspicions in the initial response process.’,
Acting Commissioner Yoo Jae-seong of the National Police Agency announced at a regular press conference held at the police headquarters in Seodaemun-gu, Seoul, on the 2nd that “the number of personnel was increased by 24 on the 28th of last month, expanding the TF to a total of 69 members.”
Acting Commissioner Yoo explained, “Since parts of the trial regarding the Gadeokdo incident have been completed, there is a need for further legal review,” and “there are also some materials related to the National Intelligence Service, so we reinforced our team for a more in-depth investigation.” The additional personnel include many police officers with lawyer qualifications for legal support.’,
The TF is currently analyzing records and other information from the time of the incident. Acting Commissioner Yoo added, “We are conducting interviews with relevant investigators at the Busan Police Agency,” and “we are securing and analyzing incident records from the institutions involved.” It is known that the TF has also acquired some trial records, verdicts, and materials from the National Intelligence Service related to the incident for analysis.
The government had earlier designated the Gadeokdo attack as a terrorist act under the Anti-Terrorism Act on the 20th of last month. The police activated the TF on the 26th. The task force is led by Jeong Kyung-ho, Head of Investigation Department at Gwangju Police Agency (Superintendent), and the office is established at Busan Police Headquarters.
