[Herald Economy=Reporter Kim Hyun-kyung] The largest virtual studio in the country, set to lead the production of advanced imaging for K-content, is opening its doors.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, along with the Korea Creative Content Agency, will hold the opening ceremony for the country’s largest ‘Virtual Studio’ at Studio Cube in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon, on the afternoon of the 3rd. Kim Young-soo, the First Vice Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, will attend the opening to examine the state-of-the-art production technologies and encourage those involved.

The ‘Virtual Studio’ features a gigantic domestic LED wall measuring 60m in length and 8m in height, combined with real-time 3D graphics technology, merging actual shooting scenes with virtual backgrounds. The LED wall displays virtual backgrounds that respond in sync with camera movements, allowing lifelike, three-dimensional scenes to be captured in real-time on site.

The opening ceremony will go beyond a simple introduction of the facility, including a live demonstration utilizing ‘In-Camera VFX (ICVFX)’ technology. Participants will directly observe the process of turning footage shot on site into content and experience firsthand the new production methods blending virtual and real-world elements in the studio.

With the completion of the ‘Virtual Studio’, Studio Cube is now equipped as a multipurpose studio capable of accommodating land, water, and virtual filming. It is expected to play a pivotal role as a K-content creation space. Production companies are anticipated to drastically reduce costs and time spent on overseas location shoots and post-production using these state-of-the-art facilities.

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism plans to fully support production companies through the ‘Virtual Studio Pilot Operation Project’ by providing facilities, equipment, and skilled technical personnel. They also aim to nurture professional talent by offering a ‘Virtual Studio Practical Use Master Class’ for industry practitioners including producers, cinematographers, and lighting technicians.

Vice Minister Kim commented, “With the opening of the ‘Virtual Studio’, we expect broadcasting video content companies to leverage advanced production infrastructure to introduce competitive content in the global market. The Ministry will comprehensively support all industry stages, from planning and development to production, overseas expansion, and professional talent training, based on infrastructures like the ‘Virtual Studio.'”
