Today’s final trial for Kim Kun-hee… Variable in the questioning of the main Deutsche witness

On the anniversary of the one-year emergency martial law today (3rd), the sentencing hearing for Kim Gun-hee will be held at the Seoul Central District Court.

The special prosecutor’s office will present its sentencing recommendation, and Kim will deliver her final argument.

However, the testimony of an additional witness, an accomplice in the Deutsche Motors case, is expected to be a variable.

Here is Bae Gyu-bin reporting.

It has been three months since the special prosecutor’s office was first assigned to the case of Kim Gun-hee, who is being prosecuted for stock manipulation of Deutsche Motors and bribery related to the Unification Church.

Coincidentally, the special prosecutor will make her sentencing recommendation on the anniversary of the emergency martial law.

Previously, Kim reversed her position in court and admitted after Jeon Seong-bae, a former monk she worked with, confessed to giving her a bag and a necklace.

However, she has denied receiving the necklace and maintains there was no bribery or quid pro quo, disputing any charges other than accepting the bag.

As the special prosecution’s sentencing recommendation draws attention, there is also interest in what Kim, who once described herself as “a nobody,” will say in her final statement.

[Kim Gun-hee, former President Moon’s spouse (last August)] “To the citizens, I sincerely apologize for causing such concern as a person who is essentially nobody.”

If the court approves the special prosecutor’s request to broadcast the trial, Kim’s voice might be publicly heard for the first time during her questioning and final statement.

The court also plans to question an accomplice in the Deutsche Motors stock manipulation case before concluding the trial.

The special prosecutor submitted the interrogation report of Lee, an accomplice in the Deutsche Motors case, as evidence. Since Kim’s side expressed disagreement with its acceptance, an additional witness was scheduled.

If the testimony extends longer than expected, additional court sessions may be scheduled, potentially delaying the sentencing hearing.
