Kim Byung-ki, the floor leader of the Democratic Party, stated today (the 20th), regarding our military’s official proposal for inter-Korean military talks to North Korea, that “North Korea should respond promptly.”
At the policy coordination meeting held at the National Assembly, Floor Leader Kim emphasized, “This military dialogue is the first official proposal to North Korea since the inauguration of the Lee Jae-myung administration and will serve as an important opportunity to restart dialogue between the two Koreas.”
He explained, “The purpose of the talks is to preemptively prevent accidental clashes that could occur at the military demarcation line in the demilitarized zone,” and added, “The core of this proposal is to eliminate unnecessary conflicts and misunderstandings, which do not contribute at all to peace and security on the Korean Peninsula.”
He also mentioned, “Recently, although North Korean Central News Agency severely criticized the outcomes of the U.S.-South Korea summit, we will not individually respond to each of their claims,” adding, “Whatever they want to discuss can be thoroughly addressed at the negotiation table.”
Floor Leader Kim stressed, “Over the past three years, the frozen inter-Korean relations should be gradually restored through dialogue” and emphasized, “Meeting is the key to solving problems.”
Previously, the Ministry of National Defense proposed military talks to North Korea on the 17th to discuss setting the baseline for the military demarcation line.
