Lim Eun-jeong, Chief Prosecutor of the Seoul Eastern District, commented on the situation regarding the ‘Daejang-dong appeal abandonment,’ saying, “If the decision was made to appeal, then anyone affiliated with the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office, including the chief prosecutor, should have been prepared for a disciplinary nullity lawsuit and signed the appeal to submit it.”
On the afternoon of the 10th, Lim posted on her Facebook, saying, “It’s regrettable and unfortunate that if they believed an appeal was necessary, they, including the chief prosecutor, didn’t sign and submit the appeal, ready to face a disciplinary nullity lawsuit.”
She remarked, “Since it was a case investigated by Prosecutor Um Hee-jun, whom I tried to prosecute for perjury, I have no trust in the investigation process and outcome, and I haven’t even seen the ruling, so I have no intention to dispute the legitimacy or justification of the appeal abandonment orders. However, as many people asked, I am briefly stating my position.”
She added, “I feel it would have been so much better and more regrettable if there had been such a reaction to the immediate appeal abandonment regarding the dismissal of former President Yoon Seok-yeol’s arrest by former Chief Prosecutor Sim Woo-jung.”
Lim did not participate in a collective statement made by frontline chief prosecutors who put their names on it.
She explained, “I couldn’t join as I’m a complainant suing the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office for disclosure of information to know the reasons behind the ‘no misconduct’ decision of the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office’s inspection department regarding the collective actions of prosecutors and the complaint requesting inspection related to the investigation conducted by Prosecutor Um Hee-jun.”
Prosecutor Um was identified as one of the key figures in the alleged perjury instruction case involving former Prime Minister Han Myeong-sook.
As the controversy over the appeal abandonment of the Daejang-dong development corruption case continues inside and outside the prosecution, frontline prosecutors nationwide have demanded a detailed explanation on the appeal abandonment of the Daejang-dong development corruption case from Acting Prosecutor General No Man-seok.
Amid escalating backlash and controversy, Jung Jin-woo, the Chief Prosecutor of the Seoul Central District, expressed his intention to resign on the 8th of this month.
