[Seoul = Newsis] Reporter Yoo Jabi: The Ministry of Unification and the Liberation 80th Anniversary Project Promotion Committee announced on the 10th that they will host the 2025 Peace Unification Marathon on the 16th at Imjingak Pyeonghwa Nuri, Paju, under the theme “Liberation 80, Peace We Create.”
The marathon will consist of three sections: a half-marathon (21.0975 km), an 8.15 km course symbolizing the historical significance of liberation, and a 5 km course open to people of all ages.
Notably, the half-marathon course is a special route allowing participants to run up to the Inter-Korean Transit Office within the civilian-controlled zone, which is normally difficult for the general public to access.
A total of approximately 4,100 people have signed up for the marathon. Among them, Jin Seong-min, a third-generation member of a separated family, expressed hope, stating, “Since childhood, I’ve heard stories from my grandmother from Gaeseong about my great aunt and Gaeseong’s famous spots left in the north. I hope my steps contribute to a step towards peaceful reunification.”
Alongside the marathon, various events will take place on the day of the event, including ▲Peace Unification Experience Booths and ▲Liberation 80th Anniversary Booths.
The Ministry of Unification stated, “We expect participants to have a special experience by running through the scenes of division, deeply engraving their wishes for a peaceful Korean peninsula and experiencing the value of peaceful unification.”
