The White House: “China rescinds retaliatory measures on North Korea and shipping”… Will Hanwha Ocean be released too?

The tension between the US and China has gradually eased since the “Busan Summit” between the two countries’ leaders.

As part of the US-China trade agreement, there is a possibility that China will lift sanctions imposed on Hanwha Ocean’s US subsidiary.

Both countries have also agreed to establish military communication channels to prevent accidental conflicts.

US President Donald Trump expressed satisfaction with the “Busan Summit” with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

“Negotiations with China will be excellent. They will last a long time. I got along very well with President Xi Jinping. The meeting with China was amazing.”

In this context, the White House announced that China will lift sanctions imposed on various shipping companies, in addition to measures implemented in retaliation against the US ‘Trade Act Section 301’ investigation of China’s maritime, logistics, and shipbuilding industries.

Previously, China had sanctioned five entities, including Hanwha Ocean Shipyard, interpreted as targeting the Korea-US shipbuilding cooperation project MASGA (Management and Safeguards Agreement).

The potential lifting of sanctions imposed on Hanwha Ocean’s US subsidiary by China is being mentioned, and our government expressed optimism that if issues between the US and China are resolved, there could be productive progress on this matter.

Military authorities from both countries will establish communication channels to prevent accidental conflicts.

US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth noted that they agreed with Chinese Minister of Defense Wei Fenghe to establish military-to-military channels, emphasizing “the best path for both countries is peace, stability, and friendly relations.”

China has also eased the export ban on “Nexperia,” a vehicle semiconductor manufacturer.

Previously, the US ensured that Chinese companies could not circumvent US regulations through their overseas subsidiaries, and the Netherlands stripped management rights from Wingtech’s Dutch subsidiary Nexperia.

China retaliated by blocking semiconductor exports from local factories, escalating a supply chain crisis in the automotive industry.

President Trump confidently claimed that the US-China talks would lead to eternal peace and success, but cautious perspectives suggest that the eased tension is only temporary.
