Kim Son-kyong, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of North Korea, who is visiting New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly, declared that North Korea will never relinquish its nuclear capabilities. On the 29th (local time), during his 16-minute speech in the general debate of the 80th United Nations General Assembly held at the UN headquarters in New York, Kim stated, “The demand for denuclearization is no different from asking us to give up our sovereignty and right to survival and to violate our constitution.”
Kim added, “As the aggressive threats from the United States and its allies are increasing, our country’s physical war deterrent has accordingly strengthened, thoroughly deterring the war intentions of enemy nations and ensuring the balance of power in the Korean Peninsula region.”
Earlier, North Korea dispatched a delegation led by Vice Minister Kim to the UN General Assembly in New York, marking the first time in seven years that North Korea sent a high-level delegation to the UN since 2018. Kim delivered his speech starting at around 11:48 a.m. on that day.
