Combining 2D pixel graphics with console-level action and strategic combat systems, Kakao Games’ new title ‘Goddess Order’ is generating anticipation for its global success, including in South Korea. The new game integrates retro sensibilities with action and strategic gameplay, drawing attention as a potential new hit title for Kakao Games. According to industry sources on the 24th, Kakao Games, led by CEO Han Sang-woo, has launched the mobile action RPG ‘Goddess Order’, developed by Pixel Tribe (CEO Bae Jeong-hyun). This game targets major regions worldwide including North America, Europe, Japan, and Taiwan, supporting six languages. ‘Goddess Order’ features a blend of retro-style 2D pixel graphics, console-level action, and strategic combat systems, elements highlighted even before its release.
After a soft launch in June in select regions such as Canada, Australia, and Singapore, ‘Goddess Order’ enhanced its overall quality of combat, graphics, and content based on user feedback. Prior to its official release, it raised expectations by gradually revealing key details about its worldview, dot graphics, and battle systems. The game’s setting revolves around the kingdom of ‘Kaplan’, foretold to face destruction. Princess ‘Lisbet’, following the goddess’s command, organizes a knight order to defy her predicted fate and save the kingdom, seeking out fragments of a shattered prophecy. Players follow the main scenario, ‘Goddess’s Mission’, accompanying Lisbet and her comrades, thus naturally understanding the game’s main characters and story. The ‘story events’, which delve into untold tales and hidden secrets of the knights, enrich the game’s narrative, allowing players to experience more than just battles.
Kakao Games emphasizes that ‘Goddess Order’ stands out in its graphics, portraying its strong identity. In an RPG market dominated by flashy 3D graphics, the game presents characters, backgrounds, objects, and UI icons using 2D pixel art, merging retro charm with modern presentation. The appeal of pixel art extends beyond simple visual effects, accurately conveying feedback such as attack, dodge, and parry during combat, while instilling life into character expressions and movements in story cutscenes to enhance immersion. This art style forms the visual identity across the game, offering a unique sentiment to players through various content like mini-games and cutscene productions.
Unlike traditional mobile RPGs that focus on auto-combat, ‘Goddess Order’ features a direct control-based tag action combat system. Players can freely switch between three knights, optimizing console-like combat elements like dodging, defending, and parrying for mobile environments, and strategically tackle boss patterns and timing. The unique ‘Link System’ furthers combat immersion, enabling automatic combo attacks when switching knights using the link gauge, with a powerful joint performance when the three knights activate their ultimate simultaneously, culminating the battle. Combat content includes various modes such as the farming dungeon ‘Quest’, ‘Northern Front’ with weekly-changing battle rules, ‘Tactical Training’ providing both growth and rewards, and the high-difficulty boss-centric ‘Black Rift’, offering long-term engagement.
‘Goddess Order’ features five classes—Assault, Tactics, Suppression, Raid, and Support—each with distinct roles and personalities in combat. The ‘Assault’ class dominates the battlefield with quick and sustained attacks, represented by protagonist ‘Lisbet’ and the beast warrior ‘Tia’. The ‘Tactics’ class strengthens allies’ combat power and weakens enemies, with the sniper ‘Violet’, adept with rifles and dual pistols, as a key figure. The ‘Suppression’ class, led by the morning star-wielding ‘Yan’, breaks enemy break points to seize combat dominance. The ‘Raid’ class exploits gaps with explosive power, exemplified by the electric mage ‘Letitia’. The ‘Support’ class ensures ally survival in long battles with health recovery, with ‘Dana’, who uses musical instruments as weapons, playing a crucial role in changing battlefield dynamics.
Additionally, Kakao Games has launched an in-game collaboration with the popular VTuber group ‘Hololive Production’ to coincide with its global launch. Popular members ‘Usada Pekora’ and ‘Mori Calliope’ will appear in the game, providing richer content. A Kakao Games representative stated, “Goddess Order combines pixel art sensibility with console-level action to deliver a new entertainment experience in mobile RPGs,” adding they plan to offer differentiated experiences and enhance their competitive edge in the global market through continuous updates and stable service operations following its official release.
