Seoul to Operate 17,000 Medical Facilities During Chuseok Holiday… City Implements Comprehensive Measures

Seoul City has announced the ‘2025 Chuseok Comprehensive Plan’ to ensure citizens can spend the Chuseok holiday safely and comfortably. The plan is divided into three main areas: citizen safety, livelihood stability, and living convenience, with 15 specific initiatives. The operation period will run from October 2 to 10.

To prevent any medical gaps during the holiday, 70 emergency medical facilities, including 49 emergency medical centers and 21 emergency hospitals, will operate 24/7 as usual. The Seoul Emergency Treatment Centers (two locations) and specialized hospitals (four locations) will also function without breaks to provide care for non-severe patients. Information about hospitals and pharmacies open during the holidays will be accessible through websites, mobile apps, and phone lines.

Fire risk inspections and safety consultations will be conducted at vulnerable facilities, including nursing facilities and fire-prone residential areas. Roads, subway stations, bus terminals, traditional markets, and parks will be inspected for safety before the holiday to prevent accidents.

A crackdown on the labeling of agricultural, marine, and livestock products will be conducted until October 2 at traditional markets and large retailers. To combat potential crimes and accidents from increased vacant homes and the influx of travelers, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency will enhance patrols of vulnerable sites and manage traffic congestion.

The Disaster Safety Situation Room will operate 24/7 to remain ready to address any emergencies promptly. Support measures will be provided for the vulnerable, including a financial aid of 30,000 KRW for over 254,000 households receiving basic livelihood support and 10,000 KRW for elderly residents in nursing homes and disabled individuals in residential facilities. Free meals will also be provided continuously to low-income seniors and children at risk of hunger, and shelters for homeless individuals will maintain meal support.

To alleviate the burden of holiday expenses, Seoul will increase the supply of 10 major holiday products by 105% compared to regular days and monitor prices through an agricultural product supply prediction system. The Seoul Love Gift Certificate will be available at a 7% discount, with 275.5 billion KRW issued across districts from September 16 to 18.

During the holiday period from October 3 to 9, Seoul will increase express and intercity bus services by 17%, with 570 additional daily operations to accommodate an extra 18,000 travelers per day. While subways and night buses will run on holiday schedules, late-night bus services will not be extended due to the expected dispersion of travelers over the extended holiday.

Jung Sang-hoon, head of the Seoul City Planning Coordination Office, stated that the city aims to prepare comprehensive measures in collaboration with relevant agencies to ensure a safe and enjoyable Chuseok for all citizens and travelers, paying special attention to the health and safety of citizens and supporting vulnerable groups and the local economy.
