Second round of consumption coupons: 12.59 million people apply in two days, 1.259 trillion won disbursed.

On the 24th, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced that as of the second day of applications for the second round of consumer recovery coupons, 12.59 million people, or 27.61% of eligible recipients, had completed applications. The total payout amounts to 1.259 trillion won.

Out of the applicants, approximately 9.06 million opted for credit or debit cards, 2.23 million chose regional gift vouchers, and 1.3 million applied for prepaid cards.

By region, Jeonnam had the highest application rate at 33.4%, followed by Incheon and Sejong at 28.91%, and Jeonbuk at 28.09%. Conversely, Jeju (24.23%), Gangwon (26.08%), and Chungbuk (26.68%) had lower application rates.

Starting from the 22nd, the government began accepting applications for the “2nd Consumption Coupons,” which provide 100,000 won per person to approximately 90% of the total population. Eligible citizens are those within the lower 90% of household income, based on their combined health insurance premiums (excluding long-term care insurance premiums) as of June this year.

However, households where the combined taxable value of property exceeds 1.2 billion won or where the aggregate financial income exceeds 20 million won for the year 2024 are excluded from receiving the benefits.

To prevent system overload, the first week (22nd to 26th) follows a weekday application system based on the last digit of the applicant’s birth year: Monday for years ending in 1 or 6, Tuesday for 2 or 7, Wednesday for 3 or 8, Thursday for 4 or 9, and Friday for 5 or 0. Applications can be submitted freely on weekends.
