A man in his 50s, identified as Mr. A, is under investigation for the murder of a TikToker in her 20s. During police questioning, he admitted to stopping his vehicle eight times to confuse the investigation. The Yongin Dongbu Police Station in Gyeonggi Province reported that after killing the woman in his car near Yeongjongdo, Incheon, Mr. A tried to evade the police by stopping at eight locations along the west coast in areas such as Seocheon in South Chungcheong Province and Gunsan and Jeonju in North Jeolla Province.
The police are also applying for a warrant to investigate financial transactions to verify Mr. A’s claim that he had a business relationship and provided support to the victim.
Mr. A is accused of assaulting and strangling the TikToker on September 11th in Incheon and abandoning her body in a mountainous area in Muju County, North Jeolla Province. The victim’s parents reported her missing to the Yongin Dongbu Police Station at around 4 PM on September 12th, expressing that they had lost contact with her.
While tracing the victim’s movements, the police discovered that she had traveled from Incheon to Muju in Mr. A’s car. With assistance from the North Jeolla Police Agency, the police found Mr. A about 100 meters from the site where the body was abandoned at around 5 AM on the 13th. Mr. A initially claimed that he had separated from the woman following an argument, but he was arrested for obstructing justice when he refused to present identification and attempted to flee.
Investigations revealed that Mr. A approached the victim in May, stating he had expertise in the TikTok market and offered to help increase her followers by suggesting a partnership and investment. However, disagreements arose over channel management, leading to the crime during a video shoot after an argument on September 11th in Incheon.
The pre-trial detention hearing for Mr. A is scheduled for 2:30 PM on the 16th at the Suwon District Court.
