A tram derailed in Lisbon, resulting in 16 deaths, including 2 South Koreans.

According to an AFP report on the 4th (local time), two South Koreans were among the identified casualties in a funicular tram accident in Lisbon, Portugal.

The Portuguese prosecutor’s spokesperson confirmed the identities of two South Koreans, one Swiss, and five Portuguese individuals.

The accident occurred on the 3rd at around 6:15 PM when a tram, heavily used by local residents and tourists, derailed in Lisbon, resulting in the deaths of 16 people so far.

Additionally, at least 23 people were injured, five of whom are in serious condition. The list of injured individuals includes one South Korean.

Known for its yellow trams, this tram is widely used for navigating Lisbon’s steep hills. It began operations in 1885, converting to an electric tram in 1915.
