75% Shut-off of Water Meters… 1.41 Million Bottles of Water in Stock to be Distributed to All Citizens

In Gangneung, where severe drought damage continues, water-saving measures have been intensified.

According to the “Gangneung Drought Response Situation Report” released by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety on the 2nd, the storage rate of the Obong Reservoir, the main water source in the Gangneung area, was recorded at 14.4% as of 6 p.m. the previous day, a decrease of 0.3 percentage points from the day before.

In response, the government has taken measures to shut off 75% of water meters. They have also closed 47 public restrooms and suspended operations at three swimming pools in Gangneung.

The government has launched an “Intergovernmental Drought Response On-site Support Team,” which includes the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the Ministry of Environment, Gangwon Province, and Gangneung City.

The on-site support team is handling the drought situation by supplying water through various methods and distributing donated bottled water on the ground.

A total of 112 vehicles and equipment, including 71 fire trucks and 4 military water tankers, have been mobilized to supply 5,071 tons of water to the Obong Reservoir and other locations. Additionally, up to 20,000 tons of alternative water supply has been provided.

There are 1.41 million bottles of water reserved to be supplied to residents, including vulnerable groups. The previous day, 283,000 bottles were distributed to facilities such as welfare centers for the elderly and schools, and a second round of bottled water will be distributed to all citizens.
