South Korea and the United States Conduct Joint Maritime Infiltration Drills in the Anmyeondo Area, South Chungcheong Province

The Army Special Warfare Command announced on the 28th that from the 25th to the 27th, it conducted a joint Korean-American maritime infiltration training exercise around the maritime training grounds in Anmyeondo, Taean, Chungnam.

This training, part of the Ulchi Freedom Shield (UFS) exercise, focused on enhancing the tactical doctrines and interoperability between Korea and the U.S.

In this exercise, about 40 personnel from the Special Warfare Command’s Guiseong Unit and the U.S. 7th Air Force’s 604th Air Support Operations Squadron participated.

Additionally, U.S. air assets were deployed, including two F-16 fighter jets from the 51st Fighter Wing of the U.S. 7th Air Force and two UH-60 helicopters from the U.S. 2nd Infantry Division’s 2nd Combat Aviation Brigade.

The exercise commenced with joint fire observers from the Special Warfare Command and U.S. joint terminal attack controllers guiding air fire at enemy facilities in the docking area.

As conditions for entry were created by the attack of the U.S. F-16 fighters, the special forces personnel quickly moved to the nearby sea aboard UH-60 helicopters.

The special forces members, having departed from the helicopters, covertly maneuvered about 15 km to the docking area using high-speed rubber boats. They then transmitted targeting information for air guidance on targets identified through special reconnaissance.

The U.S. F-16 fighters, having received the information, successfully eliminated the final targets with air fire. The training concluded with the special forces personnel leaving the operational area by helicopter.

A Special Warfare Command official stated, “We plan to continue enhancing the interoperability of the Korea-U.S. alliance and strengthen joint special operations posture through realistic joint Korean-American training exercises in various locations.”
