(Seoul = Yonhap News) Reporter Lee Sang-hyeon – Prime Minister Kim Min-seok evaluated the recent Korea-US summit, saying, “There has been meaningful progress following the Korea-Japan summit.”

In his opening remarks at the 38th cabinet meeting held at the government complex in Seoul that morning, Prime Minister Kim remarked, “This is another hurdle overcome in overcoming the rebellion.”

He continued, “The two leaders agreed to respond together to the rapid changes in international order and expand the Korea-US alliance beyond military to include economic sectors such as shipbuilding and manufacturing, strengthening practical cooperation.” He added, “They particularly aligned on working together for peacebuilding and denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.”

Further, he expressed support and commendation for the president and related officials who engaged in a full-scale diplomatic effort for national interest, stating, “We send applause and support to the president and related officials who conducted a full-scale diplomatic campaign for the national interest.” He requested that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and related agencies thoroughly prepare for follow-up measures.

He also noted, “A new leader of the main opposition party will be elected this afternoon,” emphasizing, “Respecting and cooperating with the National Assembly, which is a ‘partner in state management,’ is a fundamental principle of democracy and a governmental responsibility.”

Prime Minister Kim also urged related agencies to carefully monitor and prevent damage from heavy rain and landslides.
