Comedian Nam Hee-seok shared an anecdote about fellow comedians Park Soo-hong (left) and Choi Seung-kyung (right) having a physical altercation in the past. On the 17th, episode 53 of the web variety show ‘Jodongari’ featuring Park Soo-hong was released on the YouTube channel ‘Jodongari.’
In this video, Nam Hee-seok recalled the incident of the scuffle between his colleagues Choi Seung-kyung and Park Soo-hong while talking with fellow comedians Ji Seok-jin, Kim Su-yong, and Kim Yong-man. Nam Hee-seok said, “There was a conflict between Park Soo-hong and Choi Seung-kyung. Seung-kyung said he couldn’t stand Soo-hong. At that time, Soo-hong was as thin as a stick insect while Seung-kyung weighed about 130-140 kg. Yet Seung-kyung said he thought he would have a go at him,” he reminisced.
Kim Yong-man, who heard about this later, explained, “It wasn’t just something that happened that day; issues had been there for a few days. They thought each was looking down on the other, and it all came to a head that day.” He added, “I only heard about it, but hearing from someone who saw it at the scene, it was hilarious. They all reconciled and became close afterward, so we can talk about it now.”
Nam Hee-seok humorously suggested, “How about a rematch with gloves on Jodongari between Park Soo-hong and Choi Seung-kyung?” The backstory of the scuffle was previously revealed on the KBS2 variety show ‘Happy Together’ broadcast in July 2014.
In that show, Choi Seung-kyung said, “Park Soo-hong didn’t address me casually. But when I called him ‘Soo-hong-ssi,’ he gave me a peculiar look and that’s when I saw many sides of Park Soo-hong. Meanwhile, a PD asked me, ‘Why did you say you wouldn’t do the segment? Kim Su-yong is doing it because you declined.’ But I never said such a thing. This situation kept repeating.”
Listening to this, Park Soo-hong responded, “Did you hit me because I was taken out of the segment? It was true I had trust from the PD. While practicing for the segment, Choi Seung-kyung was preparing for another segment, so I suggested Kim Su-yong,” clarifying the misunderstanding.
Nam Hee-seok, Park Soo-hong, Choi Seung-kyung, Kim Yong-man, and Kim Su-yong are all fellow comedians from the 7th KBS open recruitment. Choi Seung-kyung transitioned to acting in 2001 and is currently working as a live commerce creator.
