Ruling and opposition parties likely to have lunch meeting with Speaker Woo tomorrow… last-minute negotiations before the plenary session.

**Summary:** Coordination prospects regarding contentious bills such as the Broadcasting Act trio are in view.

On June 18, Democratic Party Acting Leader and Floor Leader Kim Byung-ki and People Power Party Floor Leader Song Eon-seok met at the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul. On August 3, it was reported that the floor leaders of both parties are expected to attend a luncheon on August 4, hosted by National Assembly Speaker Woo Won-shik, before the National Assembly’s plenary session.

In this meeting, they are anticipated to conduct last-minute negotiations on contentious bills, including the Broadcasting Act trio (Broadcasting Act, Foundation for Broadcast Culture Act, and the Korean Educational Broadcasting System Act amendments), the Yellow Envelope Act (Labor Union Act articles 2 and 3 amendments), and the Commercial Act amendments, ahead of the July extraordinary session’s final plenary session.

The People Power Party has stated that it would resort to filibustering (unlimited debate to legally block proceedings) if the Democratic Party pushes ahead with legislation unilaterally. A People Power Party official mentioned in a call with CBS Nocut News that while they are considering the proposal from the Speaker’s office, there is skepticism about the value of negotiations given the ongoing ruling party’s unilateral actions.

The Democratic Party is determined to sequentially introduce bills previously blocked by the Yoon Seok-yeol administration’s veto at the plenary session. DP Policy Chief Huh Young asserted in a press briefing that they will ensure the Labor Union Act articles 2 and 3 amendments pass within this session as part of their duty.
