The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy launched a ‘Joint Task Force (TF)’ with related ministries and held its first meeting today (16th) at 10 a.m. in the grand conference room of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Jung-gu, Seoul, to devise plans for establishing a RE100 industrial complex.
The RE100 Industrial Complex TF was formed to discuss detailed implementation plans and a special law for the RE100 industrial complex, which was reported to be the government’s top policy priority at the chief secretary meeting presided over by the president on the 10th. The first meeting was chaired by Vice Minister Moon Shin-hak of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and involved director-level officials from related ministries, including the Office for Government Policy Coordination, Ministry of Economy and Finance, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries, Ministry of Education, and Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
During the meeting, participants agreed to refine tasks for each ministry in areas such as ▲building renewable energy infrastructure, ▲attracting companies and creating living conditions, ▲developing industrial complexes and infrastructure to ensure the successful establishment of the RE100 industrial complex.
In particular, they decided to focus TF’s efforts on crafting essential incentive measures for attracting investment from advanced companies, such as ▲a fundamentally regulation-free business environment, ▲attractive educational and living conditions, and ▲strong measures for reducing electricity rates.
The government aims to prepare plans for the establishment of the RE100 industrial complex and a draft special law within the year, with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport jointly conducting bi-weekly regular TF meetings.
Vice Minister Moon stated, “As RE100 is becoming a necessary element for export companies, we should take it as an opportunity rather than a regulation to promote balanced regional development and energy transition utilizing renewable energy.” He added, “We will discover all available policy measures through organic cooperation with related ministries to develop plans for the swift establishment of the RE100 industrial complex.”
