According to a report by Money Today on the 16th, broadcaster Lee Soo-geun has put his building in Sangam-dong up for sale at a hoped-for price of 3 billion won. Lee Soo-geun had purchased the 165㎡ (49 pyeong) site in Sangam-dong jointly with his wife Park Ji-yeon in 2011 for 1.3 billion won and constructed a building on it. According to the land registry, the maximum amount of collateral loan is about 864 million won, with a 720 million won loan executed.
However, after registering the building under Park Ji-yeon’s sole name, all loans and debts were under Lee Soo-geun’s name, leaving him solely responsible for the debt while the building was under Park’s ownership. Lee Soo-geun previously expressed his trust and responsibility to his wife on an entertainment show, stating, “All financial power and the house are under my wife’s name, and only the debt is under my name.”
The building was once used as the office building for ‘Content Lab VIVO,’ an agency founded by broadcaster Song Eun-yi, but it is currently vacant. The couple is expected to earn about 1.7 billion won in profit after 13 years, with industry estimates suggesting the actual profit to be around 1 billion won.
Although there has been no official announcement about the reason for the sale, there is speculation that the couple is liquidating the property to cover Park Ji-yeon’s upcoming kidney re-transplant surgery expenses in August. Park Ji-yeon is scheduled to undergo re-transplant surgery with a kidney from her older brother next month and is currently undergoing pre-surgery examinations.
Park Ji-yeon, who married Lee Soo-geun in 2008, experienced kidney issues due to pregnancy toxemia during her second pregnancy in 2011. She received a kidney transplant from her father, but the transplanted kidney failed to settle properly, resulting in ongoing dialysis treatment. In 2021, she was advised by medical professionals to undergo a re-transplant and was placed on the waiting list for a deceased donor.
Through her social media account, Park Ji-yeon conveyed her feelings, saying, “If everything goes well in the final tests, I will likely receive a second kidney transplant around mid-August. Although my mind is still complicated and cautious, I am preparing well.”
She continued, “Unfortunately, due to taking immunosuppressants, I am gradually wrapping up my yogurt business, which was beneficial for my immunity. I will overcome this with a bright mindset, as shown in the photos,” she promised.
