KAIST-LIG Nex1, Collaboration in Advanced Defense AI Field

**Establishment of Defense Autonomous Systems Research Center: Cooperation in Intelligent Swarm Systems and Coordinated Engagement**

On the 3rd, KAIST announced that it signed a memorandum of understanding with LIG Nex1 on the 2nd to establish and operate the “Defense Autonomous Systems Research Center.” The two organizations will establish the center to jointly conduct research and develop advanced technologies in the fields of defense autonomous systems and AI-based systems technology.

LIG Nex1 plans to collaborate with the ‘Defense Intelligent Swarm Systems Research Center,’ which KAIST operates with support from the Institute of Information & Communications Technology Planning & Evaluation (IITP). The collaboration will include various research endeavors such as developing centralized swarm system software platforms, research on cooperative engagement between manned and unmanned systems, and surveillance, reconnaissance, and interception applications.

Shin Ik-hyun, CEO of LIG Nex1, stated, “The combination of LIG Nex1’s capabilities in unmanned and missile systems development with KAIST’s advanced AI research will revolutionize the future battlefield,” adding, “We will demonstrate the advanced defense solutions at an early stage.”

KAIST President Lee Kwang-hyung commented, “The intelligent swarm system is a key technology that will simultaneously achieve combat efficiency and cost reduction. Through collaboration between industry, academia, and defense, we aim to nurture world-class defense AI talent and secure original technologies.”
