President Lee’s approval rating is at 59.3%… Democratic Party 48.4%, People Power Party 31.4%

A recent poll indicates that President Lee Jae-myung’s approval rating is approaching 60% following his diplomatic debut at the G7 Summit. According to a survey conducted by Realmeter for Energy Economics from May 16 to 20, with 2,514 adults nationwide, President Lee’s approval rating stands at 59.3%, while 33.5% disapprove of his performance. Those who were unsure constituted 7.2% of the respondents.

The positive rating increased by 0.7 percentage points from the previous week, while the negative rating decreased by the same margin. Of the positive ratings, 49.2% said he is doing “very well,” and 10.1% said he is “doing well.” Among the negative ratings, 24.8% said he is doing “very poorly,” and 8.7% said he is “doing poorly.”

Realmeter analyzed that the G7 Summit and the rise of the KOSPI index over 3,000 contributed to the increase in approval. In contrast, controversies surrounding Prime Minister nominee Kim Min-seok and the overheated real estate market were seen as factors contributing to the decrease.

Regarding the outlook on President Lee’s future performance, 60.5% of respondents believe he will perform well, up 1.1 percentage points from the previous survey. In contrast, 34.3% believe he will not perform well, which is a decrease of 0.6 percentage points from the previous week. Those unsure made up 5.3%.

In a separate party approval survey conducted by Realmeter on May 19-20 with 1,008 voters, the Democratic Party was at 48.4%, down 1.5 percentage points from the previous survey, while the People Power Party rose to 31.4%, up by 1.0 percentage point. The Reform Party and the National Innovation Party were at 4.9% and 2.9%, respectively, with the Progressive Party at 1.6%.

Both surveys were conducted via a 100% wireless automated response method. The margin of error for the presidential performance survey is ±2.0 percentage points at a 95% confidence level, with a response rate of 6.2%. The party approval survey has a margin of error of ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level, and a response rate of 5.6%.
