President Lee Jae-myung, in a call with the Prime Minister of Malaysia, discussed “expanding exchanges in trade, investment, and defense industries.”

President Lee Jae-myung held a summit call with Anwar Ibrahim, the Prime Minister of Malaysia, this morning to discuss expanding cooperation between the two countries, according to the presidential office.

Kang Yoo-jung, spokesperson for the presidential office, stated, “Prime Minister Anwar congratulated President Lee on his inauguration, to which President Lee expressed his gratitude.” She further noted, “The two leaders agreed to work together to expand mutually beneficial and practical cooperation in various fields, including the conclusion of the Korea-Malaysia Free Trade Agreement (FTA) this year, as well as trade and investment, infrastructure, digital transformation, green growth, and defense.”

Spokesperson Kang continued, “President Lee celebrated the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries this year and said that based on the trust and friendship built over more than half a century, he would work with Prime Minister Anwar to further solidify and develop the friendly cooperative relationship between the two nations.”

Additionally, she mentioned, “The two leaders aim to contribute together to international cooperation and strengthening this year, with Malaysia as the chair of ASEAN and South Korea as the chair of APEC. They plan to maintain active communication and exchange throughout the ASEAN and APEC summits this year.”
