Kakao distributes fonts for free… Commercial use is also allowed.

[Seoul Economic Daily] Kakao (035720) announced on the 17th that it has developed two types of ‘Kakao Fonts’ optimized for readability and expression on digital screens, which will be distributed for free.

‘Kakao Large Font’ is designed for high visibility typography, making it suitable for titles, while ‘Kakao Small Font’ is characterized by increased spacing and cleaned lines to ensure clarity and avoid blurring even at small sizes. The size and proportion have been adjusted to reflect the modern trend of communication using only consonants.

The fonts include a ‘ligature’ feature that automatically transforms combinations of two or more symbols into a single form, converting specific symbols into tidy emoticons so they appear as expressive as text.

Kakao Fonts are distributed for free for personal and commercial use under the ‘Open Font License’.

Shin Young-seop, Kakao’s BX design leader, said, “Kakao Fonts were created to provide optimal readability and expression on digital screens we encounter daily, such as smartphones.” He added, “We will continue to contribute to a richer digital expression culture by understanding and reflecting the communication methods of the changing times.”
