Monks and temple staff urgently evacuated as fire breaks out at Buddhist Central Museum
Firefighters are currently working to extinguish a blaze at the Buddhist Central Museum located next to Jogyesa Temple in Jongno, Seoul. The fire broke out on June 10, 2025, around 10:22 AM in the museum’s international conference room. As the smoke spread, monks and temple staff evacuated quickly, with no casualties reported as of yet.
The fire department issued a Level 1 response at 10:39 AM, 17 minutes after the fire was reported, deploying all available firefighting resources. The primary focus is on preventing the fire from spreading to adjacent buildings. The cause of the fire will be investigated once the firefighting efforts are complete.
